DFDS Seaways have done it again. Today they were named as Europe’s Leading Ferry Operator by the World Travel Awards. DFDS have been recognised by the awards for seven years running now. The other nominees for this year’s award were Brittany Ferries, Color Line and P&O Ferries.
The World Travel Awards ceremony is considered “the Oscars” of travel awards and the travel industry. The awards first began in 1993, and the 2013 ceremony took place in Antalya, Turkey. A full list of this year’s European winners can be seen here. Winners of the awards are decided by votes from both industry professionals and customers and any such award therefore must mean the company has both the respect from its peers and satisfaction from its customers.
DFDS is known for its customer service and quality of on-board facilities such as restaurants, quality cabins and entertainment. Since expanding its operations recently (with the purchase of Norfolkline for example) DFDS ferries are also known for their comprehensive choice of routes – in fact across Europe they offer a total of 30 passenger routes as well as a huge choice of freight routes. From the UK alone, DFDS offer passenger ferry crossings from Harwich to Esbjerg, Dover to Dunkirk, Dover to Calais, Newhaven to Dieppe, Newcastle to Amsterdam and Portsmouth to Le Havre.
So what else did the World Travel Awards tell us? Well, if you are looking for Europe’s Leading Boutique Hotel, the winner is Grandes Alpes which can be found in the ski resort of Courchevel, Saint-Bon-Tarentaise in the French Alps. And Europe’s leading city hotel was awarded to Hôtel Fouquet’s Barrière in Paris, France. Disneyland Paris was awarded Europe’s Best Themed Resort, and the Eiffel Tower Europe’s leading tourist attraction.
