Booking your ferry tickets couldn’t be easier these days. Nearly all of the ferry operators offers online booking through their web sites, plus there are plenty of online ferry ticket agents where you can also book tickets.

How to find the best deals

Book in Advance
Ferry travel is much like any other form of travel when it comes to finding the cheaper deals. The further you book in advance, the more likely it is that you will find a better choice of cheaper fares. Leave booking until closer to the time and those cheap tickets will have already been sold. Not only that, but chances are there may not be the full choice of tickets available for the times or crossings you require. So get organised and book early.

Book Online
Online booking will give you a far greater choice of fares and cheaper deals than simply turning up on the day of travel. In fact, booking in advance is a requirement for some ferry operators. With those operators that do offer the chance to turn up and pay on the day of travel, choice of times may be limited and you could be asked to wait for an available travel slot, which is in turn likely to cost you more than if you had booked in advance.

Booking online these days is safe and easy. You will be sent a print out of your tickets where applicable (some ferry operators only require your booking reference). Remember to take any booking details, printed tickets and of course the required ID when you travel.

Last Minute Fares
If, however, you can be fully flexible about when you want to travel, then you could hold out for a last minute fare. These probably aren’t as widely available in ferry travel as they are, for example, in package holidays, but some ferry operators may drop prices closer to sailing times, should there still be availability. Remember, however, that choice will always be more limited the later you leave making your booking.

Compare Prices
We are all aware that price comparison online is a great way to find cheap deals. Use our ferry price comparison tool no the left to help you find all the best deals for your preferred ferry crossing. It’s easy to use and helps you see straight away where the best prices are.

However, comparing prices for ferry fares isn’t quite as straightforward as comparing prices for a product and you often aren’t comparing like for like. Instead you are likely to be comparing all ferry crossings to France, rather than, say, only from Dover to Dunkirk, since this is only offered by one ferry operator. So the results of a price comparison search may throw up some great deals, but on all ferry crossings to France, some of which you may not have considered.
